Installing odbTools

Install Oracle client – Administrator Option
Create a directory odbTools.
Create a subdirectory stage under odbTools.
Download odbTools into the subdirectory stage.
Unzip the downloaded file in the staging directory.
Run the Setup program.
Change the installation directory to odbTools.
Click in the Install button.

*** Most of the setup time is spent copying the help file. The setup will show 0% completed from a long time.

NOTES

If you get a message “Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system. …..”

Cancel the installation
Copy SETUP1.LST to SETUP.LST
Run the Setup Program again

If you have problem installing after a non-complete uninstall

1. Search for a copy of the odbToos.cab file in the Windows folder. If found, delete it. (Setup places this cab file in Windows folder and removes it at the end of a successful Setup).

2. In the Windows\Temp folder, look for the subfolder named Msftqws.pdw. If found, delete the subfolder.

3. Locate the following files. If any of these files have a size 0 bytes, delete them- \Windows\System\Vb6stkit.dll \Windows\St6unst.exe.

Execute odbTools and click on the Help button for assistance with using odbTools.

odbTools uses Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O), thus it requires Oracle client installed on your machine, as well as OO4O for your Oracle client version.

*** If you get an error “Active X component can’t create object”, then you probably need to install OO4O.
